Inclusion

At Princethorpe Infants and Nursery we are committed to providing quality provision and support for all our pupils including those who have special educational needs of any kind.  This may include children who are experiencing difficulties, those who are particularly able and those having physical, emotional or behavioural difficulties.

We have a Senior Teacher for Inclusion who works closely with the class teachers and Teaching Assistants to ensure that together we meet the needs of every child.  The  Senior Teacher for Inclusion liaises closely with the Headteacher.

As a school, we are required to follow a “Code of Practice” for special needs as well as the Disability Discrimination Act.  Parents will be given information about the process when necessary.  Your views and involvement are very important and you will be consulted and informed of what is happening at every stage.  Occasionally, it is considered necessary to enlist the help of outside agencies (for example, Pupil & School Support/ Specialist Support Service/ Educational Psychologist/ Victoria Outreach Service) and again, we would discuss this with you and ask your permission.

You will be informed at Consultation evenings, and through your child’s report, of his or her progress in school.  If we are particularly concerned, we will ask you to come into school to talk with us.  If you are worried at any time, please make an appointment to see your child’s teacher in the first instance.  You may also ask to talk to our Senior Teacher for Inclusion or the Headteacher.  We can then discuss whether your child has a special need of any kind and tell you how we intend to offer support.

Accessibility

School is accessible for wheelchair users via our ramped main entrance.  There is a toilet available for disabled persons.
